For every bartender it is a must handle the art of cocktail shaker! This is also one of the basics of mixology and bartending because this tool has literally revolutionized the art of making cocktails. Bearing this in mind, Az Boutique features a range of shakers dedicated to professional or amateur bartenders. These barware cocktail accessories have two essential functions: mixing liquids of different densities and refreshing your drinks. This essential cocktail set is available in different models to combine comfort and durability: Boston shaker, graduated shaker or stainless-steel shaker. To achieve a creamy Pina colada, a spicy Margarita or an exquisite Cosmopolitan with a perfect chemistry between the different ingredients, the mixer stage is essential!

The mixologist’s art of handling the cocktail shaker!

For the order of ingredients, each mixer has his own method, but in general, pouring alcohol first is the most popular method. Some bartenders recommend adding strong alcohols such as whiskey or rum before proceeding with your non-alcoholic ingredients such as fruit juices or liquor and finishing with ice cubes. This allows you to adjust the proportions according to the volume of alcohol (if you have poured too much) to avoid serving strong cocktails to your guests.

Sparkling spirits-based cocktails are an exception. In this case, the non-alcoholic ingredients are usually mixed in a shaker before pouring them into their cocktail glass. Sparkling alcohols, such as champagne, are poured directly onto the previously mixed ingredients.

Stir vigorously your ingredients for 10 to 15 seconds to get the desired result. If you do not stir your ingredients hard enough you will get a 'phased cocktail', i.e. a cocktail with several concentrations of alcohol, so it will be very full of alcohol on the surface (because this is less dense) and very bland at the bottom of the glass.

How to choose a shaker?

The Boston Shaker:

These bar utensils are unquestionably the pioneer in this area. Preferred by professionals, it is composed of only two elements: a metal part and a glass part. The timbale has an opening diameter larger than that of glass, allowing the latter to come into place. Very versatile, this model also allows you to mix the cocktail directly in the mixing glass with a cocktail spoon. With the Boston cocktail shaker, you should however use a cocktail strainer to remove ice cubes or fruit seeds and mint leaves.

The Three-Piece Shaker or Cobbler Shaker:

Considered to be the most complete cocktail shaker, it is similar to the continental shaker but has a filter that eliminates the need for a cocktail strainer. On the other hand, it is not very appreciated by the professionals because its cleaning proves a little more tedious due to the presence of the filter. Not very practical when we must prepare several different cocktails in a row! In addition, it also tends to excessively dilute cocktails. However, it is ideal for a home bar who want to organize a cocktail party at home.

Continental shaker:

This shaker that was born in Europe consists of two pieces. Probably the most aesthetic of the 3 models and a good compromise between the Boston Shaker and the 3-piece shaker because it is easier to handle than the Boston Shaker, but cocktail strainers must be used in addition.
