Sarreguemines

Porcelain services, flat or hollow plates, dishes, fruit bowls, bowls, cups, saucers, egg cups, do not miss the white porcelain range of Sarreguemines, one of the best quality catering tableware !

Created by Mr. Jacobi and Mr. Fabry in the 18th century in 1784, Sarreguemines, a ceramic and pottery production, bears the name of the city where it was born. Specialized in tableware and in particular high quality earthenware and ceramic pieces, Sarreguemines has known how to grow over the centuries and remains today one of the great symbols of porcelain and earthenware French know-how. Now known as the Faïencerie Digoin, Sarreguemines crockery is available on AZ Boutique.

The tradition of Sarreguemines tableware: the time of the mills

18th century: On the eve of the French Revolution, Jacobi and his 2 partners transformed an oil mill into a stone mill. The first Sarreguemines earthenware factory is created. But in a chaotic political context and strong competition from English and French manufacturers, Jacobi gave way.

In the 19th century, Sarreguemines began to expand and become famous. Thanks to the young dynamic Bavarian entrepreneur Paul Utzschneider, Sarreguemines's earthenware and vases are now at the very top of the European earthenware industry. Thanks to the introduction of new decorative techniques, Sarreguemines has gained an unprecedented succes. Napoleon the 1st himself becomes one of its best customers! New workshops, new mills and coal-fired furnaces, Sarreguemines is equipped with cutting-edge technology to manufacture exceptional earthenware. Simply, real masterpieces !

Century change: industrialization, success and Pyroblan technology

In 1836, at the time of the Industrial Revolution, Paul entrusted his son-in-law Alexandre de Geiger to take over. Alexandre, then, modernized and expanded the business. He built the first steam-powered factories for example.

Since 1876, the creation of the Digoin et Vitry le François factory has enabled the company specialising in the manufacture of porcelain objects to grow considerably! Located very close to a kaolin quarry considered the whitest in Europe, the Digoin plant is located in an ideal geographical environment for a porcelain maker. Considered one of the most efficient in Europe, Digoin earthenware marks the history of French-made porcelain.

The two wars passed: the Sarreguemines unit was dislocated entirely. Remember, the annexation of the French Moselle Region by Germany. In fact Sarreguemines is in German territory while the other two factories on French soil. Sarreguemines was divided in two, then reunited, then taken into custody, but... wait for it: the tenacious Sarreguemines was able to survive, its good days were not over!

In 1968, Sarreguemines Vaisselle developed the "Pyroblan" technology, a vitrified porcelain considered "the most resistant in the world". In the world of professional catering (from hotels, restaurants to community canteen), Sarreguemines Pyroblan products will be unanimously appreciated.

Between 1970 and the 2000s, Sarreguemines was bought out several times, but the latest techniques, quality and precision of an unequalled know-how remained there until the end!

The rescue of a two centuries tradition

In June 2015, Jean Maurice Schmidt of the French company Bowden Services saved the Sarreguemines porcelain factory in Digoin from judicial liquidation and bankruptcy. Sarreguemines Vaisselle becomes the Fayencerie de Digoin.

In the heart of the Saône et Loire, the Digoin faience factory still produces all Sarreguemines products: quality earthenware that meets the requirements of catering professionals and the needs of private individuals.
