Choosing within the Thermometer collection

Which thermometer for which use?

Frying, oven and meat each require a specific range. A digital meat probe measures core temperature, the frying thermometer copes with a hot oil bath, the oven thermometer stays during baking. Do not use a fridge thermometer for frying: its useful range is not suited.

Analogue or digital?

Analogue is robust, battery-free, with instant reading. Digital gives tenth-of-a-degree precision and a faster response time for core measurements. Digital is preferred for meat, analogue for cold storage and frying.

How do you check calibration?

Classic test: dip the probe in a glass of well-stirred ice water, you should read 0 °C (± 1 °C). For the upper range, boiling water gives 100 °C at sea level. If the gap is too large, the thermometer needs recalibration or replacement.
